FAQ

  • Filling out an application is the first step all volunteers take to becoming part of our Minnesota 50501 community. If you take the time to fill out an application we know you are serious about learning more about how to volunteer with our organization, and also helps us protect our community from bad actors.

  • We use Cryptpad because we take information and operational security seriously. Cryptpad ensures the information you provide in the form is not uploaded to any cloud servers or otherwise shared or sold.

    Cryptpad FAQ: https://docs.cryptpad.org/en/FAQ.html

We use Signal because it is currently the best free, secure, and widely available messaging application.

  • After you submit your volunteer application, a vetting volunteer will contact you via Signal and schedule a time for a ~30 minute vetting call. We will ask you to briefly turn on your camera and show a photo ID to verify you are not 3 MAGA bots in a trench coat.

Vetting our members is an important layer of security, but is not a guarantee. We will always do our best to keep us safe, and that includes making decisions about who to allow into our community or not.

  • A general volunteer is a member of our community that participates in a variety of actions, projects, teams, etc. Whether you enjoy data and spreadsheets, writing speeches, public speaking, providing direct aid, yelling into a megaphone, or any number of other activities there will always be a way for you to express yourself and use or learn new skills!

There are so many ways to volunteer with Minnesota 50501: check out the photos below for some inspiration :)

  • Minnesota 50501 has one of the largest and most well-trained street medic teams in the state! Our street medic team offers regular training events and can be found at almost every march, rally, and protest.

If you are a medical professional and/or exclusively interested in being part of this amazing street medic team, please fill out the medic-only application to directly connect to that team. However, if you are interested in volunteering in other capacities with MN50501, please fill out our general volunteer application instead (don’t worry, you will still be able to join the medic team).

  • The Neighborhood Network is a communications hub that connects people to their neighbors for various purposes, including rapid response and mutual aid; and on various platforms, though most neighborhoods communicate via the Signal app.

The geography of neighborhoods varies in scope: some chats are county-wide, most cover an individual city or town, while some are hyper-local to a specific area within a neighborhood.

This project sprouted organically from the seeds of multiple grassroots volunteer efforts including MN50501 and passionate individuals unaffiliated with any organization who were all witnessing local law enforcement fail to keep their communities safe from the lawless federal agents of DHS, ICE, and other complicit federal agencies.

The Neighborhood Network is the People’s answer to: who keeps us safe? WE KEEP US SAFE.
